I still think had I been walking by instead of across the street with friends (dark, near a park, you couldn't see anything) I would have put that guy in a coma, very least. It actually sparked me going to school for forensics (though when I learned I had to enforce victimless crimes [drug war, seatbelts] as well as protect against volent crimes, being a cop lost it's shine for me), and when I hear this like this it always makes me feel just the same. It's very cool that your neighborhood is doing something right away- I'm sure they'll be vigilante or start a watch as well, hopefully it never happens again!
